about
Stephen Falls at SXSW Bandpage HQ, 9pm
by H. Scott Allen
Hovering around the musical parameters of Lou Reed and the Traveling Wilbury's, Stephen Falls is an Austin songwriter who relies on playfulness and sincerity.
"My favorite music always expressed joy and misery equally."
His songs provide distinct lyrics, a sense of ease and mood shifts.
He attacks achievement in the sarcastic To Be Someone. He whips out his self-described "Capo of Depression" for Improvise A Grin. He follows that with his cover of ELO's Don't Bring Me Down.
"I like to dance, laugh, and cry. Music takes you where you need to go."
Stephen Falls and Friends will play this Sunday night with Eight And A Half, Collapsi, and Nixon.
